1 John 1:9 NIV*
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
The Greek word for “faithful”, in this context means “trustworthy”**. When we simply ask Jesus to forgive us for the things that we have done wrong, and then turn away from sin (repent), He will forgive us. He is “trustworthy” to do it. He also shows justice in doing it. Jesus died for our sins, and then rose again. His death on the cross was the payment for the debt that we owed God because of our sin. Therefore, since the debt is paid, if we ask for forgiveness in Jesus’ Name, it is a just thing for God to forgive us. God is just. He cannot act unjustly.
The mercy of God is something that a lot of people have trouble believing. Many people believe that religion is all about do’s and don'ts. However, Christianity is all about having a relationship with Jesus. Performing the do’s and don’ts is a product of our love for God. We can have a relationship with God through Jesus forgiving our sins.
I encourage you today. Ask God to forgive whatever sins you have committed. If you repent, and are sincere in being sorry, God will forgive you. His word tells us this, and His word is true.
