Matthew 6:33 NIV**
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
In this section of Scripture, Jesus is in the process of preaching the Sermon on the Mount. Before this verse, He said: “‘...31So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or What shall we wear?’ 32For the pagans run after these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.’” (Matthew 6:31-32) Jesus was saying, and I am paraphrasing, “Seek Me above all else, and let Me take care of your needs.” This is where child-like faith comes in. I remember my mom describing child-like faith to me in this way: “When you ask me, ‘What’s for dinner?’, you do not worry about whether there will be food. You just assume there is going to be food.”* In the same way, we should not worry about how God is going to provide for us. We should just trust that He is going to. We read in Philippians 4:6-7, “6Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ jesus.” (NIV)** I think it is safe to say that God does not want us to worry. He is THE perfect and loving Father; and, as a loving Father, He will provide for the needs of His children (which is EVERY Christian). Today, I encourage you to put child-like faith in Jesus. Trust Him with everything. This is something that I am going to do better at, myself. I struggle with stressing out about finances.
