Romans 12:2 NIV*

“2Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing, and perfect will.”

How does one renew his or her mind? A person does this by reading the Scriptures, prayer, and practicing the spiritual disciplines (such as fasting). I can speak from experience. I have started to develop a prayer life, I study the Scriptures daily, and I fast. I say this not to brag, but to give an example. I did not see any spiritual growth in myself until a friend of mine pointed it out. Now, I can see clearly how I have grown through the renewal of my mind.

As we begin to grow spiritually, we are transformed into the likeness of Christ. The Greek word for transform is metamorphoĊ (pronounced meta-more-pha-oh). This word, according to Strong’s concordance, means “change, transfigure, transform.”** As we grow spiritually, our nature gets changed from rebellious and desiring sin, into the nature of Christ (which desires obedience to God's will).

To close this devotional, I encourage you to pray that God transforms you. I encourage you to seek Him with all of your being. Devote time and energy to getting to know Him through reading the Bible and prayer.
